Saint Valentine Festival

In the Catholic Church of the Metastasis of the Theotokos in Mytilini, the famous “Frankish Church” in the central market vicinity, the holy relics of the most famous saint of all have been hosted, namely, Saint Valentine, for the past 120 years. During the season of Saint Valentine’s Day, that is, around 14 February, the Catholic community of Lesvos organizes a series of religious events, culminating in the litany of the Saint Valentine’s holy relics through the streets and the waterfront of the city. The Municipality of Lesvos also sponsors cultural events based on the theme of romantic love and love in general, such as love song contests, love correspondence and poetry contests, horse-drawn carriage tours of the historic city center, concerts, poetry reading evenings, musical performances, art exhibitions and many more.
