The volcanic activity twenty million years ago was generous to Lesvos with its numerous significant hot springs, which are natural resources that humans have utilized for many centuries. These springs are dispersed through the island both close and far away from the capital city, while their waters present a wide range of chemical compounds (carbon, chlorine, sulfur and radioactive elements) and temperatures. The striking fact is that one quarter of the spas in Greece are on Lesvos, while they have been well-known for their curative properties since antiquity.
