Akrasi

Περιγραφή

Akrasi is built on a low hill in the south part of Lesvos at an altitude of 352 m, 41 km from Mytilini and 17 km from Plomari. The name “Akrasi” derives from “Akra”, a term ascribed to many acropolises or fortified positions. The buildings span between the foot of the hill and its pinnacle, where one might find the church, the village’s oldest building. The southwesternmost point of the village includes the School (Cultural Center and Museum today) and the biggest building in the village, i.e. the olive press factory. There are some old houses but not that many; they are distinct in that they are topped not with ceramic roof tiles but with white soil. The traditional atmosphere of this village is augmented by the cobblestone alleys.
