Asomatos
Asomatos is a medium-sized semi-mountainous settlement on the foot of Mount Olympus at an altitude of 257 m, 22 km from Mytilini and 15 km from Agiasos. The traditional architectural elements of this village have not changed with its many stone houses, winding cobblestone alleys and cozy coffee houses. The village church, namely the Taxiarches Church, is especially interesting, built in 1746, venerating the Taxiarch Archangels Michael and Gabriel who may have inspired the name of this settlement (“incorporeal”). Since Archangel Michael is customarily mentioned first, but only as a non-corporeal spirit (i.e. with no body [privative “a” + “soma”]), hence “Asomatos”.
