The Church of Aghios Georgios at Anemotia

Description

In the lower part of the settlement of Anemotia in Mithymna there is the Holy Church of Aghios Georgios. This is a single-space church with a gable clay-tiled roof, dating to 1702, according to the ktetor’s inscription. The church exhibits a slight eastward incline and it is enclosed within a wall with an entrance gate on the south side. The iconographic program deviates from the traditional content, with representations of the martyrdom cycle of Aghios Georgios and scenes from St. John’s Revelation.
