The Dipi-Larsos Wetland

The Dipi-Larsos Wetland is located within the Hippeion valley, formed between the Mytilini peninsula and the Gera peninsula. There is a marsh right next to the Evergetoula river. This is a wetland system including estuaries of the river/torrent Evergetoula and the brackish water coastline marshes. In the north part of the wetland many fresh and brackish water fountains may be noted. The dominant vegetation here is hyperaquatic.

The Dipi-Larsos marsh is covered almost in its entirety by dense and impenetrable reeds where aquatic and salt water plants co-exist. There are a big number of plants, reptiles, amphibians, birds and insects in this area, some of them extremely rare.
