The Museum of Natural History of the Petrified Forest of Lesvos

The Museum of Natural History of the Petrified Forest was founded in 1994. The purpose of this museum is the salvaging, protection, promotion, exhibition and presentation of the petrified trees found in the island’s western part comprising the Lesvos Petrified Forest, a natural monument with worldwide renown. The Museum cooperates with the Regional Administration of the Northern Aegean, the Municipality of West Lesvos, the Municipality of Lesvos, the University of the Aegean Sea and other international organizations striving to promote the richness of the Lesvian geological monuments and the recognition of the Geopark of Lesvos. The permanent exhibitions of the Museum narrate the history of the geo-historical evolution of Lesvos and the Aegean Sea. The Museum halls host many sensitive findings from the Petrified Forest of Lesvos.
