The Plaka Petrified Forest Park
The Plaka Park in Sigri is found over an area of 70 stremmata (17.5 acres) on the small homonymous peninsula, 800 m. to the south of the town of Sigri. Many significant plant fossils have been unearthed. Among the findings, there is a gigantic petrified trunk with a perimeter measuring 13.7 m. and diameter 3.70 m, which belongs to the Lauraceae family and it is the largest standing tree trunk in the world. The lower part of trunk was discovered to contain a part of the root system, which proves that that this tree has remained at the same spot since it was petrified.
